Vanguard design amid Madrid's shopping and nightlife hub
A very gay-popular hotel situated in the heart of Chueca and the gay Square of Madrid.
Conceived by the famous interior designer Toms Ala, this hip boutique hotel is decorated with attractive tones and with modern, fun furniture. Located between Calle de Fuencarral and Calle de Barquilla near all the shopping the area has to offer.
For those who like to work out to maintain a beach-ready body even during their vacation, the hotel has a contract with Gymage, a popular gay-friendly gym nearby to allow their guests to use it with an additional cost of about $10. The real winning aspect to this hotel, apart from its superb location and gay-friendliness, is its roof top terrace and pool. With Madrid’s lack of a beach or any noteworthy waterfront, Oscar’s rooftop pool is just the thing a visitor to the city needs to keep that summer glow.
You’ll quickly realize that it is a perfect place to stay during a visit to Madrid. It’s the pulse of the LGBT community in Madrid and contains some of the best restaurants the city has to offer. There are multiple plazas to sit and enjoy tapas, restaurants for fine dining, bakeries, coffee shops and late night pizza options for those wild nights out as Madrid is also known for its party scene. The most popular gay bars and clubs plus regular monthly parties and events take place in Chueca or closely in and around the center.
Oscar Maté was full of really great surprises
Hands-down during our two week stay in Spain. The design is boutique modern, clean and efficient. We didn't have a view and did not mind as we were insulated from the street noise. Everything in our room had special thoughtful deign touch to it, like the glass headboard with floating lights. THE BED was so soft and inviting--and best of all the internet worked. What also makes it a stand out hotel is that it's in the heart, the epicenter of Chueca and within walking distance to all that is "en trend" in Cheuca. It's also equi-distant to the Chueca and Gran Via Metro stops. This is important, if you plan to shop on Gran Via you drop your load off at the hotel and if you plan to drink in the evening, everything is within walking distance. SUPER Convenient. For breakfast, skip the overpriced hotel breakfast and have a croissant and cappuccino at the cafe next door--you will not regret it. If you want more, El Tigre is a couple of doors down with gargantuan portions of tapas, beer or wine. I seriously cannot recommend this hotel enough. Oh, the staff, are also super cool and helpful. -Jeffreyguard
do it !
Awesome rooftop bar with lovely views! -geoffs3
Perfect Place to Stay
Loved this hotel. Excellent location. Walking distance to the bars. Cool and funky, but with no attitude. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Affordable rates and breakfast is only 7 euro's if not in your rate. Great rooftop bar, but it was a bit straight on Sat night. I would definitely stay here again. -paulieg
Super Gay Hotel
This hotel has a great location. It's square in front of it, does not look much. There is a parking garage right in front of it, with an ugly entrance. But, when you are in the hotel and you look down on the same square, you can see that the entrance of the parking garage is in the shape of a Red Ribbon. Yes, the same symbol for HIV.
This is also why the location is very great. It is situated right between the centre of Madrid and Chueca the Gay District. So when you are gay, you have the perfect location for both shopping (what we gay's love to do) and for going out in a gaybar, club, or sauna (what we gay's also love to do). I think because of it's location at the gay district, this hotel is also very gay friendly. I saw lots of other gays in the hotel.
The corridors to the hotel rooms are all red and fluffy, sometimes even looking like a brothel. I guess you just like it or not. The hotel also has 2 elevators, which are looking a bit shaggy, but still I got save up and down all the times. On top of the roof there is a lounge with swimming pool and terrace, overlooking the rooftops of Madrid. It has a very nice view. This lounge is also open for guests who are not staying at the hotel. That means that at party time in the evening, there is a row of people in the lobby, just waiting for getting upstairs to party ~ all ~ night ~long ~ :) This is great when you are young and gay, cause we all love to party, right? Only not good when you are old and enjoy silent times, then you should go to a boring hotel, cause this hotel is all about fun :) Ha Ha!
Even though there is this lounge in the upper level, you don't notice this when you are in your hotel room. My room was quite standard, no apparent luxury, but it was clean and had air-conditioning. It got cleaned every day and the bed was very comfy.
Even though this hotel is not luxury and all, I really enjoyed this hotel. The staff was friendly and did not look weird when I took a local guy with me to my room. They are quite easy there. Only thing was, that the staff was not so good in English. I had trouble with boarding online, cause Iberia Airline changed flight departure times without advance notification. Therefore I asked the hotel staff to help me, but because they did not speak English very well, this was also kinda troublesome.
So in conclusion, if you are gay, like to party, like to shop, like to go out, want a gay friendly environment, then this is a super hotel for you. -Exquisition, Nijmegen, The Netherlands
I spent 5 nights at room mate Oscar to explore Madrid, its location is superb and it's a clean and pleasant hotel. The concierge were fantastic. Oscar is in a great place to explore the gay bars in Chueca being only a short walk away. It's also walking distance to many beautiful sights in Madrid like like Retiro park, many plazas and Calle Gran Vía. The rooftop bar is expensive but also a lovely place to enjoy a caña and some very nice cocktails. The bar staff up there were the best! Unfortunately the pool was closed but I imagine it would be lovely in the summer. The bed was comfortable and my room, 504, looked over Plaza de Vázquez de Mella (not really city views) was very quiet and dark which is good for a sleep in. The Internet was a little slow and a little inconsistent but worked for the most part. That would be my only complaint. When I'm back in Madrid this is where I will stay. -ScottBailey78, Bondi, Australia
Excellent front desk (thanks Angel), Fun and Comfortable Room, Great Location
My husband and I stayed at this hotel on February 26th and 27th (the second time for me).
Angel handled my check-in and made all the arrangement so my husband, who arrived later, would have no problems. Later he handled our reservation for the Parador in Cuenca with ease and efficiency. He is quick, reactive and a definite plus as is the whole team at the front desk.
Upon entering the room, I had a small problem closing the window. The cleaning woman called in the technician who fixed it very quickly. Again I appreciate the reactivity and rapidity.
We loved the room - very modern, with great accessories and a big comfortable bed. A great rain-forest shower head and everything you need.
Paolo and Katia were present during the breakfasts, and both are a delight. Very friendly, ready to get you anything you need. The breakfast offers a fine variety in a pleasant atmosphere. My suggestion is to take everything to the bar area to look out at the plaza and people watch as you eat.
The hotel is in the center of the shopping district and LGBT neighborhood - great fun with easy access to everything. -Chris W, Paris, France
Boutique hotel in excellent location
A modern hotel nestled in the old area of Chueca. Quiet location but only 2 blocks from Gran Via. Many interesting old streets, lanes, bars and restaurants in all directions. I chose an executive room which was amply sized with a king size bed and overlooked the plaza. All rooms are non-smoking. The breakfast buffet was ample. Service in the roof-top bar was frustratingly slow. The lobby staff is excellent, but please keep the carpet by the elevator clean throughout the day, it gets dirty quickly and looks uninviting. I was pleasantly surprised to find the hotel was running a fund-raiser for HIV research - glad to see and support a business with a sense of social responsibility. -nicksea, Seattle
Perfect stay in Madrid
We were the first time in Madrid. If you want to stroll around in Madrid's Center it's a perfect place: the rooms are nice, the Hotel staff is friendly and helps you to find the right Restaurant or Shops. -Herwig S
Best Hotel in Madrid Par Non (I've stayed in a few)
After looking around, a Spanish friend recommended Hotel Oscar. It's not 5* but let me tell you all, this hotel is much more personal than all the other hotels I have stayed at. When you take breakfast as for Paulo's legendary Omelette, Ask in advance day before and he will endeavour to get extra ingredients just for you. Anything you need beyond the nice typical breakfast they have, they will bend over backwards and try. Staff are lovely, polite, friendly, they come and talk to you, and really get to know your specific needs. Most of all it's purely genuine and you feel they are not just doing this out of job,
I want to Luis, Paulo, Katya, Blanka and the wonderful management team at the desk to know you made my stay memorable. I will be telling people in the UK and elsewhere this is the place to come. You make the hotel more than just a hotel, you make it amazing and that much extra special. My local Spanish were also praising the way you all are.
Hotel Oscar has an amazing roof top bar, everyone talks about it, but if you stay there you get free cocktails almost every day of the week, and again the staff brief you fully on this.
So if you are looking at a hotel and deliberating, hotel Oscar is just that jewel in the center of Madrid where the beds are so soft and the double windows makes the noise level non-existant. Bathrooms nice. Everything is so clean and tidy, and the personal note to me on arrival with tones of Shakespeare was unlike anything I have ever seen any hotel.
Oh Oscar, just don't change, just keep pushing your standards because you really are the most special hotel in Madrid, and I will be back again for sure. -Karl R, Reading, United Kingdom
A new perspective you will have from Madrid after leaving the door of this nice place; modern , trendy and with great staff.
The rooms with great beds and shower, the terrace is a dream...
Highly recommendable and we will look for more roomates! -Ricardo F
