Urban jungle stylishness
Hotels don't get much more hip-casual and playful than this Berlin outlet of the 25hours chain, which opened in January 2014 and went straight into the city's buzz chart at number one. The ten-floor 149-room hotel was designed in the mid-1950s by architects Paul Schwebes (1902–78) and Hans Schoszberger (1907–97) as part of what became known as the Bikini-Haus complex, whose centrepiece is an elongated and distinctive six-floor structure which, like the hotel, also received a radical 21st-century makeover, reopening in April 2014 as an instantly trendy concept mall. Together, the mall and the hotel have injected new life into a Berlin corner already busy with the zoo, the Tiergarten, the Zoo Palast cinema and tourist spots such as the iconic Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche (Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church). 25hours designers Christoph Hoffmann, Kai Hollmann, Ardi Goldman and Stephan Gerhard have created a hotel that refuses to be dull but which uses natural materials and pop-cultural symbols (a lot of them) in a post-hippy kind of way. Standard rooms, which are a bit short on floor space, have the feel of a high-quality and ultra-knowing student dorm room, while communal areas are busy with high-concept relaxation zones with varying success. However, it's not an über-pricey establishment, and its pièce de résistance — free to only hotel guests — is the airy, light and part-outdoor Monkey Bar up on the tenth floor, overlooking the zoo, the Tiergarten and much of the Berlin skyline. And the hotel is well within walking distance from all that is gay in Schöneberg, though it's a quicker journey with one of the hotel's clunky but free-of-charge bicycles.
the best design hotel in the city!
It was my biggest surprise ever to find this hotel. Great location, great food and the team are very very welcoming. It is the best value for your money. -KfirY
we love bikini.
The 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin is located in the west of the city, between Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and Kurfürstendamm avenue in one direction and the green city oasis of the Tiergarten park and Berlin Zoo in the other. The past and the future come together in an exciting symbiosis in the west of Berlin, where innovative concepts and a heartbeat brimming with energy coincide with historic places such as the Golden Globe Fountain and Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
The 149 rooms on the fourth to the ninth floor are made for people who want to soak up the atmosphere of a big city in their accommodation too, and not just when out exploring. Half of the rooms are called Jungle and offer views of the ape house and the elephant enclosure at the Berlin Zoo. The remaining rooms go by the name of Urban and offer fantastic views of the Berlin cityscape. Free MINI hire and free WiFi come as standard services with all the rooms. Schindelhauer bikes are available for rent.
Berlin is big and bustling. And its culinary diversity is equally big and diverse. The 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin contributes to this diversity with its NENI Berlin restaurant. The concept of the restaurant is based on the idea that everyone is able to try a little of everything. Pots and pans are taken from the kitchen and placed directly on the table without any airs or graces. Whether it’s a light lunch, a replenishing bite to eat or an extensive evening meal with a dessert, the menu always expresses what’s important: curiosity.
The Monkey Bar is located right next to the restaurant on the tenth floor and is an evening and night-time hotspot for top drinks and delicious bar food created by NENI. It’s the perfect place to take in the view of both the city and the Berlin Zoo, and to experience and absorb Berlin’s dynamism and lifestyle.
The hotel is able to offer simple lobby food throughout the day thanks to its own bakery on the third floor - equipped with a wood-fired oven. The smell of freshly baked bread and patisserie specialities pervades the whole building, and these treats can be washed down with interesting coffee varieties supplied by small local roast houses. The bakery also serves fluffy brioches, hand-churned butter, organic cream cheese and home-made jams.
Weary travellers will find the perfect way to relax in the Jungle sauna on the ninth floor, which features a dry sauna and quiet zones. The focus of the well-being area, which is divided into small units, is the sauna with its spectacular views of the zoo. In this area, guests will find a wash fountain, a water hose, a flood shower and a bucket shower.
Experience the spirit of the western part of the city in the Wohnzimmer lounge at the 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin. It comprises three seamlessly segued areas where work and leisure are blended to create a unique little world. The Work Lab has individual spaces for focused work, while Bikini Island’s unique sofa area is the place to relax and chat to other guests. The DJ corner sets the right tone and creates an atmosphere at all times of the day.
The unrivalled star of the show at the Bikini Berlin is the breathtaking view of western Berlin and the tree canopy in the Tiergarten park. Full-length windows of six metres in height offer guests unique views from all angles. The spectacular rooftop terrace that stretches around three of the building’s sides speaks for itself. This is a place to meet andto simply watch the comings and goings in the Berlin Zoo and in the urban jungle.
