Why Stay Here?

Welcome to the "Deutsche Eiche“

Live and feel good in the heart of Munich!

The Deutsche Eiche (German Oak) is an old, traditional Munich restaurant. At the same time, the establishment is probably one of the oldest meeting places of the gay-lesbian scene and Munich creative artists.

In an optimal location in the center of Munich, less than 700 feet from the Viktualienmarkt, tradition unites with modern times at the restaurant, hotel, and bathhouse and cordially welcomes you. You can reach the trendy Glockenbach district with its countless possibilities for going out, the Marienplatz, and the banks of the Isar River with just a few steps.

There is also a gay bathhouse attached to the hotel -

The Bathhouse

In 1995, one of the Munich gay scene's most popular meeting places was created in the rear and adjoining buildings of the Deutsch Eiche: The Bathhouse. Distributed over four floors and almost 4,600 square feet, it offers a Finnish sauna, a salt sauna, a whirlpool, a large steambath, shower area, massage rooms, a solarium, a rooftop garden, a Bistro & Bar, TV rooms, relaxation rooms, individual and exclusive booths, as well as an appropriately cozy food and beverage area.

REVIEWS

December in Munich
Stayed at this hotel for the last 19 years at December time and found the hotel and staff to be always excellent. Great staff, good breakfast and good evening meals if required.
Very near to the centre of the city and Christmas markets. -Brian T, Yeovil, United Kingdom

Worth a try
Visit Munich regularly and often stay near Marienplatz. First time here though. Great location. Reception a little interesting with sauna entrance next to check in desk ( was doing brisk business when I was there). Had to use stairs for last flight to room as lift didn’t go that far - but no problem for me. Room itself well appointed, warm and quiet. I didn’t do breakfast in adjacent restaurant but it looked nice. Price typical of Munich near Christmas, not ridiculous. I’d use again. -Picpoul

Always a good time here. I return to Munich to enjoy this lovely spa.
It's the cleanest most well-run spa I have been to... not that I've been to many but I have been to a few dreary ones. The company is always nice and kind. It's a slightly older crowd than I remember last time I was in town. I didn't stay at the hotel this trip because I wanted a different Munich experience. The rooms from what I recall are a little sterile but very clean. -Chris M, Los Angeles, California, United States

Perfect location, helpful staff, nice restaurant
My wife and I stayed in this gay / gay-friendly hotel, which is location about 10 minute walk from Marienplatz. There is also a farmers' market on your way to the city center. The hotel is nicely decorated, the staff is very helpful, the room was spacious, and the restaurant serves good food for both breakfast and dinner. Finding a parking place is a challenge but luckily we returned our rented car at central station (hauptbahnhof) after leaving our suitcases at the hotel. -Haramachi, Tel Aviv, Israel

Perfect Place to Stay for Oktoberfest!
5 of us friends checked in to stay for a long stay before, during and after Oktoberfest 2017. This place is perfect since it includes a restaurant (which are frequented by locals which tells you something good). Men's sauna is a great benefit as well. The front desk clerks were mostly friendly and scheduled our taxis for us to get from place to place and gave us maps to get around town. This is a hotel in the old district of Munich, so it's close to shops and the open market just steps away, including the Glockenspiel, I would definitely recommend and look forward to going back in years to come. -Jeffrey B, Charlotte, North Carolina

Great Location in the Heart of Munich
We stayed at the hotel on the second weekend in September. We chose the hotel for its location within comfortable walking distance (less than 10 minutes) to the Marienplatz and the restaurants where we had bookings. Parking is a bit of a challenge so we left our bags at the front desk while we parked at the garage affiliated with the hotel which is a couple of blocks away. Our room no. 22 was clean and had a view onto Riechenbachstrasse, so keep the window closed for a quiet night's sleep. The buffet style breakfast included with our stay was reasonable value and the rooftop patio would have been a great place to lounge over a glass of wine had the weather been a little warmer and drier that weekend. Staff were pleasant and spoke serviceable English, although on checking out, we were charged for the breakfast that was included in our pre-paid stay. When we brought this to the attention of the hotel by email the next day, the charge was quickly reversed. -Drew B, Toronto, Canada

Nice hotel, great sauna, friendly staff, hot men!
I went to Munich for a quick getaway from the Italian summer looking for a place to stay that was cozy, conveniently located, with an onsite bar&restaurant and a gay sauna. I found it. Staff was very friendly and so was the clientele. -Fabio F

You came as a stranger and you leave as friend
I'm GERMAN, but I live live in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and I'm also in the Hotel and Restaurant business. I write this review in English that also foreign guests can read my thoughts.
The hotel is perfect located, just steps to all attractions in this beautiful Bavarian town. Rental car is not needed, you can reach everything by walking.

The hotel is a historic building from 1864. When you walk in, you find a very modern boutique style hotel.

The Rezeption is is very professional, friendly, quick and guest oriented. What ever issue you have it gets resolved directly. I forgot on my last stay months ago something in the room, when I arrived and went to my room, it was already on the desk. Incredible!

The rooms are very modern and comfortable designed, same the bathrooms. Better then in all 4 and 5 star hotels I was before in my life all over the would as ex-Modell.
On the rooftop the hotel is a Beer garden with an beautiful view over the old town. A highlight is the restaurant. Decorated in a mix of an typical Bavarian restaurant, with an touch of boutique style. The staff is more then welcoming, they all treat you as an friend, so their are not just professional waiters, they are always very friendly, smiling and give everyone special attention. Compare to other restaurants their are not serving you with a false smile.
This is what makes everyone feeling home and you have the feeling you get served by friends. It starts with the excellent breakfast buffet, lunch and dinner. From international to typic Bavarian food, every dish is delicious and all for an reasonable price. Like the hotel & restaurant is an institution, you meet also actors, singers and the municipal president there.

They call them self in German Gästehaus and Herberge, in englisch Guesthouse and Hostal, but for me it is an 5 Star Hotel. If I look and see some bad reviews, I must think, if you look for problems or issues, you are unable to please. If a guest is not happy with him self, he can stay in whatever hotel and make his stay miserable, by looking for complaints.

My special Thanks to the reception Sebastian Biller and to the restaurant staff Tanja, Ahmed, Helmut, Stefan and the Kitchen Chefs. I arrived really stressed out from Asia where I work in my low Season as interior designer for 5 Star hotels and I left relaxed and in a very good mood, to go on to another long distance flight, with a smile in my face and another beautiful experience.

Overall: If I had the option to rate the hotel with 6 Stars I would do it.

I'm looking forward to my next stay in January 2018.
Thanks to all to give me a such nice stay! -Andreas110259

Verry nice and clean. The people who work there are super frendly
5* hotel amazing food in the restaurant e a woooooow super gay sauna. Love it all. Thanks. The rooms are nice designer all in the right place superb cool . No noise from the street. The sauna super clean full of hot guys . Many places for fun. The restaurant super cool old style the food is just amazing my favourite is Gulash soup. The best in München. -George C

Great location, very nice hotel, and outstanding service
We can't be happier with our experience at the Deutsche Eiche. We arrived early in the morning and -as expected- the room wasn't ready for us to check in, but they let us store our luggage and refresh and get changed in the Sauna next door. We went out and realized that the location was even better than what we expected! Many of the highlights we wanted to see were just a few hundred yards away, including the Viktualienmarkt, Marienplatz, the Hofbräuhaus beer garten and a few others. But there are other businesses 1-2 blocks away that are worth a visit, like Vom Fass (oils, vinegars, spirits and liquor direct from the cask) or Eataly (yes we have those in the US too but only in major metropolitan cities). When we check in later on that day we were given a very nice room, modern decoration, comfortable size for european standards and FREE cold beverages in the mini fridge. Very comfortable beds and pillows, and well insulated from the outside noise. As somebody mentioned, while the hotel has an elevator, you still have to go about eight short steps or so to get to your room. Thanksfully not an issue for us but a consideration if you have accessibility needs. We have dinner one night on the restaurant on premises and the food was very good, the service was great and the price very competitive. We are thankful to Philip, Ahmed, Stephan and Sebastian for their service and help and this will definitely be our choice if we come back to Münich. One tip for bikers: there's a Donkey Republic station 200 yds from the hotel. Download their app on your phone and you are ready to rent - some places like the English Garten are meant to be toured on a bike. -Gustavo V, Bay City, Michigan

"It is obvious the owners really care about their guests!"
This was a surprising find for us. We first visited the Men's Sauna next door and the hotel photos in the lobby looked so appealing, we decided to spend a night. The room was so well appointed in every way. It was so obvious that the owners want their guests to be comfortable. We will definitely stay here again. And the staff at the front desk are so helpful and accommodating. The breakfast was extensive and delicious. The history of the Deutsche Eiche building is extensive and the owners are taking care of it with such pride. I would have loved to have met them. And the location to the center of Munich is just awesome, it is a superb location. -Rocky B, San Francisco, California

Extraordinarily Comfortable In Many Ways!!
The most important thing of all to know: the rooms are air-conditioned. That's not necessarily common in many hotels in Europe - and we arrived during a heatwave!

For those with mobility issues, contact the hotel directly. The elevator is an addition to this old building, and because of its location, it only stops at the half-way point to any of the floors, requiring one to go either a half-set of stairs up or down. Only to the rooftop bar and the lobby does the elevator stop directly at floor level. Not being mobility impaired, we did not inquire about the rules in Germany.

Located in a gay-friendly neighborhood near Virtualmarkt and the Hauptbanhof (main train station), my husband and I felt very welcomed from the moment we arrived. A great staff took care of us at the front desk, our room, and the restaurant where we had breakfast twice.

Our room was on the first floor (second floor in America), which actually was level with the ground in the back. It was too hot to use the patio, but there was a table and two chairs there accessible from the room. Comfortable beds, complimentary mini-fridge, fascinating bathroom (you truly have to see it to believe it!), and great fengshui in the feel of the room. We slept well both nights, and we had more than enough room for all our belongings. -Scott G

We just visited the restaurant.
I was traveling with my gay friend that wanted to check the place for future trips, so we inquired about the hotel prices and also about the Sauna. My friend ended going to the sauna and he really liked it, he shared with me that the facility was clean and everything was nice, including the crowd.

But let's talk about the restaurant that we visited together that night. I like the casual atmosphere, the place was packed with happy people, drinking and enjoying their meals. The restaurant serves mostly typical German cousin but very well done, prices are reasonable and everything was on point.

We had a very nice walk back to our hotel and realized that this hotel/Restaurant/Sauna is very centrally located what is an advantage for the tourists, it caters to the gay man community. -4everonvacation, Miami, Florida

Great place to stay
Clean, welcoming, great rooms, great food as a bonus..... The location is perfect for the central sights in Munich. We'll be back as soon as we can be. The Room was cool and very very clean, I was very impressed with this hotel. -Adrian B, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Good Hotel in the center of Munich
I stayed in this beautiful Hotel, in the center of Munich.
The Room, was big, quite, and had everything: a nice bathroom, TV with international Channels, a minibar with a free Water and Coke. They have also a very nice Terrace on the top with a nice view and the restaurant have a fantastic Schnitzel.

For the Gay Traveler they have a big Sauna, with good masseurs, saunas, with nice men. I will come back and was very satisfied.

You really close to the city center around viktualienmarkt, marienplatz and gärtnerplatz. in 10 min walk you at the river isar. Very Very Nice! -ShrekHH, Hamburg, German
