Popular hotel, booked frequently - commentary from GayCitiesAmsterdam:
History, luxury, location and Hitchcock!
An 18th-century hotel with a radical late-19th-century overhaul and expansion, De L'Europe retains its historical gravitas while offering state-of-the-art modern facilities and designer detail, particularly in the wake of a €65m upgrade and reinvention completed in 2011. The main building houses 88 rooms and suites — all elegant, cool and swish — 23 "uniquely appointed, spacious loft-like quarters" are to be had in the Dutch Masters wing — an annex opened in 2010, formerly a bank. Each room in the wing features a replica of a painting from the Rijksmuseum. The Michelin-starred Hoofstad Brasserie and cocktail-friendly Freddy's Bar, not to mention afternoon tea, also add to the splendour of this Amsterdam institution. The location is within easy reach of so many things, including countless gay landamrks. And in 1940 Alfred Hitchock shot scenes for his Oscar-nominated thriller FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT here.
Fantastic Location; Superb Service and Rooms
If you don't mind paying a little more for a hotel, this is a beautiful hotel right on the canal in the centre. It's very convenient to Dam Square and in between Cockring Bar and April Cafe, two hot spots. The front desk always had hot guys who rank #1 in service. The rooms are gorgeous with a huge bathroom and plenty of closet space. The drapes are truly plush and balconies for toasts. This is my favorite in the city by far! -HouHotJock
The food and service at this hotel were 10/10. We had a beautiful view overlooking the beautiful Amstel River. Concierge service was amazing and we loved he hotel's cruise of the canals. The location of the hotel is within walking distance to all main attractions of Amsterdam. -marciag19, Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Beautiful, Attentive, Romantic, Canal Views
5 stars not sufficient to rate this beautiful hotel. It exceeds 5 stars due to the attentive and accommodating staff that you encounter throughout the hotel. In particular the concierge service is superior to many! Eef, Roy and Roeland coordinated and helped us make reservations for all of our activities and restaurant preferences prior to arrival in Amsterdam. As a result, our 10 day stay felt as if every detail had been taken care of. To our surprise we were welcomed with champagne for our anniversary and our room had a beautiful view with a balcony facing the canal and beautiful bell tower. The location of the hotel is superb in a very walkable area with great restaurants and beautiful canal walks. The attention and care that the staff provided is truly a distinguishing feature that we truly appreciated. Also, the pool is very relaxing and everything was exceptionally clean. We had one of the best stays in Europe ever! -jose d
From the moment the doorman greeted our taxi from the airport the service at this hotel was faultless. Despite arriving early our room was ready, check in and check out was swift and easy and all the staff from the concierge to the restaurant staff were helpful and very friendly. We stayed for three nights and I can't think of anything but positive things to say about this hotel and the staff. Location wise it is very central and all the museums, shopping areas, flower market and red light district (if you are curious) are within easy walking distance. If my wife and I were to visit the Dam again we would not look beyond De L'Europe. -Gary D, Maidstone, United Kingdom
