The Ace brand is a gay owned design hotel.
A friendly hotel celebrating time-honored classics and creative gumption. Inspired design, unprecedented hospitality and the best bed you'll ever sleep on.
The Ace chain, viewed as hip and urban, was begun by three gay men in 1999. Alex Calderwood, Wade Weigel, and Doug Herrick successfully turned a Seattle halfway house into a destination hotel before opening more properties in Portland, Ore., New York City - Manhattan, Palm Springs and Los Angeles. Many of the hotels are frequented by celebrities, media, and LGBT patrons.
The hip, gay-owned Ace Hotel chain has become very popular for the energetic vibe.
“It was a perfect trip to Chicago. Very nice modern Hotel close to everything and anything!" -Harold, United States of America
“I adore the feel of Ace hotel rooms. They are a departure from the cookie cutter Other hotel rooms. The beauty is in the details - hip bedspread, giant bed!, working record player with a curated collection of records, even the TP holder was made of leather. Also, it’s across the street from my meeting location. Convenience + comfort ftw!” -Mariah, United States of America
“I was attracted to this place because of its thoughtfully designed rooms. I really enjoyed all of the details, and the fact that it felt much more like a hip, homey bedroom than a hotel room.” Kelly, United States of America
“great staff and great restaurant very trendy area staff couldn't have been nicer.” Regina, United States of America
“New hotel in Chicago!! Booked a stay here excited to try a new place and even more excited that it was within walking distance of our favorite CHICAGO destination, the Aviary. Very clean unique hotel. Open rooftop bar that offers beautiful views of the Chicago skyline, especially at night. We had a couple of issues on the trip but we were impressed with the professionalism of management, specifically Claire Gargan, who addressed the issues in a timely appropriate manner. It became clear to us that Ace hotel is interested in their guests having a positive memorable experience at their hotel and they will do whatever it takes to ensure that happens. Can’t wait to return to the Windy City and Ace hotel!” -Jamie, United States of America
“Room was available very early in the day. Staff was great - they sent a bottle of water and a hand written note to the room congratulating us on the birth of our first grandchildren who we were visiting. Very friendly.” -Alan, United States of America
“Beautiful restaurant and bar downstairs, walk to the best of the west loop (must try Roister and Aviary!). Rooms super hip and comfortable. Minibar snacks affordable.” -Treeski, United States of America
“Very nice modern Hotel close to everything and anything!” -Harold, United States of America
“Great location, beautiful decor! I'd totally stay here again.” Michael Robert, United States of America
“The staff was really friendly and the free coffee was good. The location was excellent. The hotel's restaurant was quite good too.” -Patrick, Canada
WELCOME TO THE WINDY CITY
Ace Hotel Chicago lives in a stoic, industrial concrete and glass building in the West Loop, once home to an Italian-American cheesemaking company and, before that, a pair of mysterious brothers. We're walking distance to the Morgan Lake L Station and some of the best food in the city. You can throw a coin and hit Google (we don't recommend it, they've got cameras) and what once was Oprah Winfrey's HQ.
We're excited to throw down roots in the Most Forward-Thinking City there is, and now, in the midst of a cultural renaissance. The vision for the hotel is inspired by the ever-evolving design history of the city and the heroes that emerged from it, as well as the idea that we'd hand over our public spaces to the city they were built for.
We have guest rooms with skyline views, event spaces big and small, a really great restaurant called City Mouse, a top floor bar named Waydown and a café by Stumptown Coffee Roasters — their first outpost in the Midwest.
In the famous words of Mr. Twain, Chicago's a place "where they are always rubbing a lamp, fetching up the genii, and contriving and achieving new impossibilities." Come by, have a bite, conduct an experiment.

DINING + DRINK
City Mouse is Ace Hotel Chicago's all-day neighborhood restaurant operated in partnership with hometown favorites Chef Jason Vincent, Chef Ben Lustbader and Josh Perlman — the team behind the critically acclaimed Logan Square restaurant, Giant.
We offer a menu of seasonal fare inspired by the Midwest, with brunch served seven days a week. See you soon.
Waydown is Ace Hotel Chicago’s rooftop bar and lounge. Named after a sad song by Illinois native John Prine, Waydown draws inspiration from the long and storied tradition of Midwestern watering holes, offering ample views of the downtown skyline, nightly music and strong, no-nonsense drinks.
With an inspired bar and cocktail list by industry impresario Caitlin Laman, and really addictive bar snacks from celebrated Chef Pat Sheerin, Waydown is a place for you, from rollicking soirees to the tender nightcap.
Room service is offered by our in-house restaurant City Mouse. Available 6:30am–11pm.
The Gallery at Ace Hotel Chicago is a space where we activate our current and eternal obsessions — fine art, fashion, literature, science, technology, culinary arts, all of it. Here you will find a rotating exhibit of art that spans the mediums.
Currently on exhibit: Blue Notes, a selection of works on Ace Chicago hotel stationary by SAIC students, curated by painting professor Dan Devening and inspired by Martin Kippenberger's Hotel Drawings.
CITY MOUSE LOUNGE + LOBBY
Our lobby is a gathering space. Spilling over with natural light, the lobby at Ace Hotel Chicago is our art-filled living room, designed by Commune with visual and material inspiration from the School of Bauhaus, Mies van der Rohe and the spirit of Midwestern craftsmanship.
The lobby offers ample soft spaces to work and read, write and converse, code and de-code, with free WiFi for everyone. Commune used industrial materials in innovative ways — marine-grade plywood, homasote, concrete, reflective metal and brick — bringing elements of the construction site inside and upending our pre-conceived notions of what comfort can be made of.
Nestled in the lobby is the City Mouse Lounge where you can enjoy seasonal small plates until midnight and inspired cocktails, local brews and natural wines until 2am everyday. Good for intimate gatherings, large groups and the classic nightcap.
Exercise is the key to happiness. Relieves stress, releases toxins and makes you feel a little drunk. If you don't get all your cardio from laughing or dancing or parcour (still a thing?), we have a gym with state-of-the-art equipment — treadmills, ellipticals, a punching bag, jump ropes, medicine balls and the like. It's really nice.
Break a sweat beneath a mural by the Boot Boyz — graphic design young'ns in Chicago who are known for their referential t-shirts and ephemera. This is their first mural, ever, and we like it a lot.
You can buy some things right out of your room, like the custom Pendleton blanket, vintage vinyl and exclusive wings + horns hoodie robe just by taking them with you — we’ll charge it after you checkout.
We also have luxuries and necessities, gift certificates and good stuff — like Rudy’s Barbershop bath products, custom guitar strings, Ace shirts and totes, Moleskine notebooks, records, books and jewelry — for sale at the front desk store.
